Spurs youngster set for first start against Liverpool

Georges Kevin-N’Koudou is set to make his first start for Tottenham against Liverpool in the EFL Cup tonight.

The 21-year-old winger, signed from Marseille in the summer, has made four substitute appearances for Spurs so far.

N’Koudou is expected to be named in a side that could include as many as nine changes from the one that drew at Bournemouth on Saturday.

United States Under-23 centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers is likely to feature in a back four with Kieran Trippier, Kevin Wimmer and Ben Davies.

Harry Winks, who has also been pushing for place recently, could also get his first start of the season, while Tom Carroll and Josh Onomah are also in contention.

But Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino expects youngster Marcus Edwards to be sidelined for at least six weeks with an ankle injury.

The highly-rated 17-year-old has been involved in first-team training in recent weeks but he picked up a knock ahead of last week’s Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen.

Pochettino was asked at his pre-match press conference if Edwards might feature in the game at Anfield.

“No, he is not available. Marcus Edwards got an injury in Leverkusen so now he’s recovering,” he replied.

“It will be six or seven weeks. He got a bad twist in his ankle.”
