Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino expects youngster Marcus Edwards to be sidelined for at least six weeks with an ankle injury.
The highly-rated 17-year-old has been involved in first-team training in recent weeks but he picked up a knock ahead of last week’s Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen.
Pochettino was asked at his press conference ahead of Tuesday’s EFL Cup tie against Liverpool if Edwards might feature in the game at Anfield.
“No, he is not available. Marcus Edwards got an injury in Leverkusen so now he’s recovering,” he replied.
“It will be six or seven weeks. He got a bad twist in his ankle.”
Meanwhile, Spurs midfielder Moussa Sissoko will be banned for three games for elbowing Bournemouth’s Harry Arter.
It means that Sissoko will miss the north London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on 6 November.
The France international accepted a violent conduct charge for the incident during Saturday’s goalless draw with the Cherries.
“I need to say that the elbow was in the face of Arter and it is clear,” said Pochettino.
“It’s difficult now because he is a player who was in our plans to play against Liverpool tomorrow so we have to change a little bit.”
