Former Manchester United midfielder has written off Tottenham’s chances of winning the Premier League title following the 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho’s side rarely threatened to breach the Blues defence and did not manage an effort on goal in the second half but, although the home side dominated possession, Chelsea also failed to create many clear opportunities.
Tottenham, who have won a top-flight title since 1961, are top of the table on goal difference from Liverpool.
“Jose’s done it before. His CV is fantastic,” Keane said on Sky Sports. “But I don’t think these players he has at Spurs are good enough to win the title. They have the X-factor in Mourinho and Harry Kane, I don’t think that’s enough. They were hanging on at the end.
“They are on for a very good season, but a very good season is a big difference to trying to win the league title. Manchester City are stronger than Spurs.”
“There wasn’t much surprise with what we saw. They are quite dependent on Kane. He was quiet. Jose Mourinho said his players were disappointed in the dressing room. They should be delighted. Mourinho will be delighted.”
But ex-Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink disagreed when asked if Mourinho’s men can win a first Premier League title.
“Yes,” Hasselbaink replied. “He is very pragmatic. He takes a point here and where he needs to win, he wins.
“He does it ugly but he does it. That’s what Mourinho is about; he is a serial winner. We all know before the game that is what he is going to do.
“Normally Spurs come the the Bridge and they lose. That is a big plus. They didn’t deserve anything.”
Hasslebaink said he had “never seen Tottenham with a better squad” and “being so professional”, pointing out the quality of Kane and Son Heung-min, with Gareth Bale was on the bench and Dele Alli not even involved.
