Real Madrid have begun a move to try to sign Christian Eriksen, according to The Independent.

Real have long been linked with the Danish midfielder, who has been discussing a new contract with Tottenham.

The Independent say Real have “made initial steps” in pursuit of Eriksen and that the Spanish club hope to eventually sign him in a £100m deal.

The newspaper say there has been contact between intermediaries and that Real believe Eriksen is obtainable.

His Spurs deal is due to expire next year and the Daily Mail say the club are open to the possibility of letting him run down his contract.

The Mail say Eriksen is looking for at least double his current wages – reported to be in the region of £70,000 per week.

The Mail say that as a replacement would probably cost more than £50m plus a new signing’s wages, the club are willing to bide their time and believe Eriksen can eventually be persuaded to sign a new contract with them.

Meanwhile, Mousa Dembele is reportedly in talks with Beijing Guoan.

The Mail say the Chinese club have offered Tottenham £11m for the midfielder, who has been tipped to move on during this month’s transfer window.
