Former Aston Villa forward Gabriel Agbonlahor believes angry Tottenham fans are overreacting to their team’s current position.
Boss Antonio Conte admitted that Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final first leg defeat against London rivals Chelsea underlined the gulf between the two clubs.
Many Spurs fans are angry with chairman Daniel Levy and the owners.
But Agbonlahor, speaking on Talksport, insisted those supporters need to be patient and wait for Conte to turn things around.
“I think they’re definitely overreacting,” he said.
“Look at the form that they’ve shown under Conte; showing that they’re more resilient, getting through and winning games, scoring last-minute winners.
“As bad as it sounds – I know fans don’t want to hear it – but you have to trust the process of Conte.”
And Agbonlahor believes Conte will be given the resources to revamp the squad and turn Spurs back in to a force to be reckoned with.
“Conte wouldn’t have come to Spurs if he wasn’t guaranteed money to improve the squad,” he said.
“Some of the players aren’t good enough to get Spurs where they want to go, so Conte bit by bit will try to get them out.
“But it’s not easy to get rid of players. These players are on great money.”
