Simon Jordan says he understands why Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is “intolerant” of the media.
Postecoglou has developed a reputation for being blunt with his comments and spiky with the media.
In particular, the Australian pointing out his tendency to win silverware in his second season at clubs has drawn attention.
It has inevitably being put to the under-pressure Postecoglou ahead of the Europa League clash with AZ Alkmaar.
Speaking on Talksport, former Crystal Palace owner Jordan said: “Ange wants to speak in a certain way, he’s intolerant of the media, he doesn’t feel he has to answer questions but takes all the benefits that the media has provided for the sport.
“But he’s not going to live that in that moment – he’s not going to think ‘oh it’s wonderful that Sky and all these people made this platform where I can get paid a big load of dough’.
“He’s going to think ‘You guys are sitting there asking me about my job – that’s all you do – and I constantly have to read about my job’.
“To some extent he’s right. I find it unpalatable. I find it unedifying. I’ve been on the other side of it.
“I’ve seen in press conferences what the desire is – you know that there’s a narrative that surrounds you. You know something you’ve said or something you’d done will trail you forever, irrespective of the context of it and it’ll be weaponised against you.”
Postecoglou has been quick to argue that he was simply answering a question when stating that he has won trophies in his second season.
Jordan added: “Ange will see it as ‘Rather than you admiring my frankness and my openness, and my propensity to say what I mean, you’re going to use that to whip me with.
“Ange has said things with the best of intentions – ‘I tend to win things, I often win things, most of the time in my second season’.
“That’s now a millstone. It’s now a problem for him because it’s going to be utilised.”
