Pochettino: Spurs must now win trophies

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has praised his players for their achievements this season but insisted the club now need to start winning trophies.

Spurs finished second in the Premier League and showed their class by ending the campaign with a thumping 7-1 win at Hull City, where Harry Kane scored a hat-trick, taking his tally for the season to 29.

The club appear to be on the up – and Pochettino says it is now important that silverware follows.

He told Sky Sports: “After three seasons where we worked a lot and set the base, it will be important in the next few seasons to try to win trophies. It will be fantastic for the fans and for us.

“I congratulate all the players on a fantastic season. It was tough, but we feel very proud and to finish in this way is important.”

Pochettino also paid tribute to the prolific Kane, who retained the Premier League golden boot despite missing almost two months of the season with injury.

“For him to play 30 games and score 29 goals is unbelievable,” Pochettino said.

“He is the top scorer again and it’s fantastic for him – a big achievement. It helps the team to play well and finish second. Next season is a big challenge again.”
