Pochettino calls for Levy to spend

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has said it is “essential” that chairman Daniel Levy gives him money to spend this summer.

Spurs have not made a signing during the last two transfer windows but are expected to spend during the current window.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola have spent heavily to improve their teams in recent years.

And Pochettino is in no doubt that Spurs need to beef up their squad before the start of the new campaign.

There are also likely to be departures, with speculation continuing over the futures of the likes of Christian Eriksen, whose contract expires next year.

“It is essential that this year the team is reinforced,” Pochettino told TV3 in Catalonia, as reported by The Sun.

“We have saved a lot of money in just two years without signing players and this should allow us to strengthen ourselves.

“In Manchester City and Liverpool, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are free to decide which players they want and which they do not.

“On the other hand, in other teams such as Tottenham, Chelsea or Arsenal it is not in the hands of trainers. Who decides, in our case, is the president.”
