Captain Harry Kane insisted England always believed they could win in Spain.

The Tottenham striker was outstanding up front for England in a 3-2 Nations League victory in Seville.

Spain were strong favourites but found themselves three down at half-time after a superb spell by England, who held on in the second half.

And Kane said his team had no doubt they could surprise their much-vaunted opponents.

“We knew we could beat them,” he told Sky Sports.

“We played well at Wembley and came out of the blocks firing. I thought we defended well and soaked up the pressure.

“It’s tough to come here and win and we’ve done that. I enjoyed it, it was a great performance, everyone dug deep. We deserved it and played well.”

Kane is without a goal in seven appearances for his country and has also been struggling at club level.

But he looked sharp as he led from the front with a terrific all-round performance.

He said: “People always talk about goals and if I don’t score I don’t play well – but I’ve contributed to the team and that’s important to me.

“I love scoring goals but winning feels even better.”
