Kane to miss England game and returns to Spurs

Harry Kane has returned to Tottenham after being released from the England squad.

The Spurs striker was an unused substitute for the World Cup qualifying win over Scotland at Wembley and will now not feature in Tuesday’s friendly with Spain.

Kane only came back from a seven-week ankle injury lay-off last Sunday, when he played 73 minutes in the north London derby against Arsenal, scoring the penalty that earned Tottenham a draw.

England interim boss Gareth Southgate said Kane now needed to resume his personal fitness schedule at Hotspur Way, rather than be part of the Three Lions’ preparation for the Spain game.

Speaking to FATV, Southgate said: “He [Kane] hadn’t played a full game for some seven weeks.

“It’s important that he gets a different training programme to what we’re going to follow over the next couple of days.

“We’re really grateful to Tottenham for letting us have him for the qualifier.

“Once we’d assessed our injuries, and what we would do for this game, the sessions that we’re going to do aren’t what Harry needs at this moment in time having had such a long lay-off.”
