Harry Kane settled the north London derby with a superb header early in the second half as Tottenham beat Arsenal 1-0 in front of a Premier League record crowd at Wembley.

The England marksman rose high above Gunners skipper Laurent Koscielny to nod in Ben Davies’ pinpoint cross four minutes after the break.

Kane, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, substitute Erik Lamela and Kieran Trippier all had chances to put Arsenal out of sight as Spurs dominated for large spells.

Jack Wilshere went closest for the visitors, forcing Hugo Lloris into a good save.

The first half failed to live up to the pre-match billing, with just one effort on target to warm the crowd of 83,222 during a lacklustre opening 45 minutes.

But Spurs increased the tempo from kick-off in the second half and Kane, who had skewed an earlier header over, made no mistake after Davies was allowed too much time to deliver from the left.

Opportunities then rained in on the Arsenal goal. Kane steered a header narrowly past the far upright and saw a volley beaten away by Cech, who tipped away Eriksen’s free-kick.

Wilshere responded with a shot which Lloris dived to his right to claim, but Spurs continued to enjoy the upper hand.

Alli poked a ball just wide before Cech denied Lamela and Tripper at his near post.

Lamela could have wrapped it up late on but dragged a shot wastefully wide across goal, while Arsenal went close to an undeserved equaliser in injury time.

Alexandre Lacazette, who had replaced the disappointing Henrikh Mkhitaryan, got in behind a sleeping Davinson Sanchez but fortunately for Spurs, he rolled an effort inches past the far post.
