Christian Eriksen, Mousa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen are out of Tottenham’s Champions League showdown with Barcelona.

They have joined Dele Alli and Serge Aurier on the sidelines, with injuries starting to pile up at Spurs.

Vertonghen and Dembele came off at half-time at Huddersfield on Saturday while Eriksen has been carrying a groin problem.

But goalkeeper Hugo Lloris returns after a thigh injury and will start.

Spurs have confirmed that the injured players will not return until after the international break.

That also rules all five of them out of Saturday’s Premier League visit of Cardiff.

Striker Harry Kane is nevertheless confident the injuries will not derail Tottenham as they bid to bounce back from their defeat at Inter Milan.

“That’s the reason we have a big squad, it’s time for the next man to step in,” he said.

“Of course it’s a massive game in the group, you never want to start with two losses. At home we have to be strong if we want to progress.

“Barcelona are a fantastic side but last year we proved we can beat the big teams, especially at home.”
