Paper round-up: Tottenham and Arsenal battling to sign young defender

Tottenham and Arsenal are reportedly competing to sign St-Etienne’s teenage defender William Saliba.

The France Under-19 international is regarded as an excellent prospect and has been linked with several top European clubs.

The Daily Mirror say Arsenal, open to selling Shkodran Mustafi, have had an opening offer of £27m rejected and that Spurs are ready to make a move for the player.

Meanwhile. Tottenham are closing in on the signing of Lyon’s France midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to The Sun.

The Daily Mail say Arsenal are set to increase their offer for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney to £19m.

Chelsea considered appointing Portuguese boss Vitor Pereira before deciding on Frank Lampard, The Sun claim.

Pereira won titles in Portugal with Porto and is now at Chinese club Shanghai SIPG.

QPR assistant manager John Eustace is a contender to replace Lampard at Derby, according to the Mail.

The Daily Star say West Ham have had a bid for West Brom striker Salomon Rondon rejected and that Crystal Palace are considering a move for Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

And Millwall have agreed a deal to sign Bournemouth winger Connor Mahoney, the Mail reports.
