Pochettino return would not persuade Kane to stay

Mauricio Pochettino returning to Tottenham would not enable them to keep Harry Kane, according to The Times.

Pochettino is reportedly keen to quit Paris St-Germain and go back to Spurs, where he remains a popular figure among fans.

But the Times say the reappointment of his former boss would not convince Kane to stay.

The England captain is reported to have told chairman Daniel Levy that he is keen to move on – and believes there is a verbal agreement in place for him to do so.

That apparent agreement was seemingly reached last summer, meaning Kane is set to leave despite having three years remaining on his contract.

Chelsea and Manchester City have been linked with Kane, who has made it clear that he wants to play in the Champions League.

The Daily Star have reported that Spurs are interested in City’s Gabriel Jesus and that he could move to north London in exchange as part of a deal for Kane.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reports that Pochettino is Real Madrid’s preferred choice to take over as their new manager following the recent departure of Zinedine Zidane.

It is claimed that the Argentine is Real’s top target ahead of former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte, who recently left Inter Milan and has also been linked with the Spurs job.
