Mauricio Pochettino insisted he was happy with Tottenham’s performance after Inter Milan pulled off a late comeback to beat them 2-1 in the Champions League.
Christian Eriksen’s goal eight minutes into the second half looked like giving Spurs victory at the San Siro.
The Denmark midfielder’s first effort from the edge of the box was pushed away by Samir Handanovic but from the rebound Eriksen’s deflected effort looped over the Inter goalkeeper and into the net.
Tottenham were punished for wasting a number of second-half chances as Mauro Icardi equalised for Inter with four minutes left.
The striker brilliantly volleyed in from the edge of the area from Kwadwo Asamoah’s left-wing cross.
Inter completed a dramatic late turnaround as Matias Vecino headed in from close range in stoppage time.
“I am happy with the performance. The performance was so good. We dominated but of course it’s so cruel,” Spurs boss Pochettino told BT Sport.
“For me is was the best performance that we’ve had from the beginning of the season.
“It’s annoying. I think the players deserved more. Before the first goal we had the game under control. After we conceded the goal, anything can happen in a place like San Siro.”
