Mourinho: Tottenham star Højbjerg will become coach

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is convinced Pierre-Emile Højbjerg will eventually go into coaching.

The Danish midfielder has been a key player for Spurs this season and was outstanding in their 2-0 victory over Arsenal in Sunday’s north London derby.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, Mourinho said: “First of all, he is very intelligent – he reads the game very well and understands the game very well.

“He’s going to be a coach one day, for sure, because he is a pain always asking questions about why we do this and why we do that.”

In the meantime, Højbjerg performs a vital role for Spurs and has been instrumental in their results this season.

The win over Arsenal took them above Chelsea and back to the top of the Premier League table.

And Mourinho believes chairman Daniel Levy deserves credit for bringing Højbjerg to the club from Southampton in August.

Mourinho said: “On the pitch he reads the situation very, very well. Physically he’s very strong and technically he is much better than people think.

“Simplicity is genius and the guy is so simple in everything he does with the ball.

“I think he is a phenomenal player. Congratulations Mr Levy.”
