United hopeful Tottenham will lower price for Eriksen

Manchester United are reportedly hoping that Tottenham will lower their asking price for Christian Eriksen.

United are looking to agree a deal to take Eriksen to Old Trafford ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The Danish midfielder, whose Spurs contract is due to expire next year, has been linked with a number of European clubs.

Spurs are reluctant to sell him to a Premier League rival and United face having to pay more than clubs on the continent.

But the Daily Telegraph say United are hoping Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will compromise on a price after previously quoting English clubs £130m.

With the deadline approaching, United are reportedly looking for Levy to cut a deal given that the player staying would increase the risk of him seeing out the final year of his contract and then leaving for no fee.

However, the transfer windows in other parts of Europe stay open for another couple of weeks, meaning Eriksen could yet be sold this summer.

Clubs in Spain, Italy and Germany have been linked with Eriksen in recent months.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror say Eriksen is not in manager Mauricio Pochettino’s long-term plans and hasn’t been since indicating that he would welcome a move.
