England beat the Czech Republic 1-0 at Wembley to go through to the knockout phase of Euro 2020 as group winners. Here’s how the London contingent fared.
Declan Rice: 6
Did his job in the first half, sitting deep and protecting the defence. The West Ham man was substituted at the interval, making way for Jordan Henderson.
Bukayo Saka: 7
Brought into the side by England boss Gareth Southgate and justified the selection with a cracking first-half display, the highlight of which was a positive burst forward in the build-up to Raheem Sterling’s winner. Less effective after the interval but it was still a very good night’s work for the Arsenal teenager.
Harry Kane: 5
Another frustrating game for the Tottenham striker, who held the ball up well but again didn’t look a threat in front of goal. He did manage his only shot on target in the tournament so far – a first-half effort saved at point-blank range – but overall he was quiet and again not helped by a lack of service.
Vladimír Coufal: 5
The defender had a tough night, especially in the first half when Sterling was lively and Jack Grealish also managed to pick up space on the flank.
Tomáš Souček: 6
The Czech Republic’s other West Ham man found the going tough in midfield, where England had the upper hand. Went close to scoring though with a first-half-shot which whizzed narrowly wide.
