Spurs players lack ‘pride for the fans and the badge they play for’

Tim Cahill believes Tottenham players have shown a lack of pride this season.

Spurs’ troubled start to the camapign continued as Leicester came from behind to beat them 2-1 on Saturday.

It continued their poor away form and their habit of losing leads – they were recently two up against Olympiakos and north London rivals Arsenal only to drop points.

And former Millwall star Cahill pulled no punches in his assessment of Spurs while speaking as a pundit on the BBC’s Match of the Day programme.

He said: “For me it’s the mentality – leaders on the pitch.

“To have that mark on them – 2-0 up against Arsenal, 2-0 up against Olympiakos, one win away in the last nine away games.

“For me it just needs to be more about the team. More leaders, a little bit more pride for the fans, for the badge they play for.”

Spurs had reason to feel hard done by after Leicester fought back following a controversial VAR decision which saw Serge Aurier’s goal ruled out for offside.

It denied the visitors a second goal after Harry Kane had put them ahead.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino said at his post-match press conference: “We dominated the game and we deserved more but that is football.”
