Toby Alderweireld has signed a new contract with Tottenham until 2023.
There had been much speculation over the future of the Belgian defender, who has been linked with several clubs.
But he told Spurs TV he was happy to extend his time in north London.
“I’m honoured to play for this club and I’m a small piece of getting to the next level,” he said.
“This is just the beginning of something – something big and something exciting.
“Not only me but my family is very happy here. I’m very lucky to have a good connection with the fans. I’m a Spurs player and I couldn’t see myself playing for another team.
“I’ve got a love for the club. It feels like both ways; I think the club likes me and I love the club. It’s like I’m living some sort of dream.
“From the beginning they accepted me very well and it’s like friends.”
Alderweireld was signed from Atletico Madrid in July 2015 and has made 179 appearances for Spurs.
And his aim is another crack at the Champions League next season.
“We want to get top four and it’s important for the club to be in the Champions League again,” he said.
“I think there are exciting times to come and that we’re going in the right direction.”
