Tottenham players reportedly unhappy with Levy

Tottenham players are unhappy with the club’s furloughing of non-playing staff, according to the Daily Mail.

The Mail say it has been told that senior players are “particularly angry” at what they see as an attempt by chairman Daniel Levy to use the furloughing of staff to pressure the squad into accepting pay cuts.

Meanwhile. The Daily Telegraph have suggested that Levy could employ Tottenham ground staff to work on the grounds of his private estate.

The Telegraph have reported that Levy is pushing ahead with controversial plans to cut costs during the coronavirus crisis – regardless of the criticism it has attracted.

Last week he announced  cost-cutting measures for April and May – and attracted widespread criticism.

The Telegraph say staff who will continue to work have been asked to accept temporary changes to their contracts.

Liverpool, on the other hand, have reversed a decision to furlough staff and have apologised to fans after criticism.

“Despite the fact we were in a healthy position prior to this crisis, our revenues have been shut off yet our outgoings remain,” Liverpool chief executive Peter Moore said in a statement.

“And like almost every sector of society, there is great uncertainty and concern over our present and future.

“Like any responsible employer concerned for its workers in the current situation, the club continues to prepare for a range of different scenarios, around when football can return to operating as it did before the pandemic.

“These scenarios range from best case to worst, and everything in between.

“It is an unavoidable truth that several of these scenarios involve a massive downturn in revenue, with correspondingly unprecedented operating losses.

“Having these vital financial resources so profoundly impacted would obviously negatively affect our ability to operate as we previously have.”
