England were denied victory by a late Italy penalty in the game at Wembley. Here’s how we rated the London contingent in the 1-1 draw.

Kieran Trippier: 6
The Tottenham full-back’s chances of starting in Russia depend more on Kyle Walker’s eventual position than his own form but he is at ease in England colours and always offered an outlet on the right.

Eric Dier: 7
Captain for the night, the Spurs man was calm at the base of midfield and happy to step back into central defence when John Stones left the field. His composure and versatility could be key in Russia.

Danny Rose: 5
Struggled after coming on for Spurs team-mate Trippier. Once seemed a certainty to snare the left-back shirt but seems short of his usual vivacity after time out injured.

Davide Zappacosta: 6
Solid. But Chelsea’s Italy right-back contributed little going forward, despite England’s inexperienced defence and his attacking play being considered a strength.
