Former Tottenham man could be set for Aston Villa move

Former Tottenham and QPR defender Steven Caulker could be set for a move to Aston Villa.

West London Sport reports that Caulker was set to train with Arsenal Kiev ahead of a possible move to the Ukrainian club but that Villa have indicated that they too would be interested in taking him on trial.

The Hounslow-born 26-year-old is a free agent, having recently left Scottish side Dundee after activating a release clause in his contract.

Caulker joined Dundee shortly after leaving QPR in February last year.

After being signed from Cardiff for £8m in 2014, Caulker made just 48 league starts for the R’s.

During his time at QPR he was loaned to Southampton and Liverpool. His move to Anfield came as a major surprise and he made just four appearances for the Reds.

He was close to moving to Russia in February 2017 but a proposed move to Lokomotiv Moscow was called off.

Caulker began his career at Spurs, making 18 Premier League appearances for them before being sold to Cardiff in 2013.

He was regarded as an outstanding prospect as a youngster but has endured a troubled career.

He played for England in 2012 but has lost his way since then and has spoken of a battle with addiction and depression.

Now, having done well at Dundee, he is looking for a new challenge.
