Six Tottenham players – five for England and one for Colombia – featured as Gareth Southgate’s side reached the World Cup quarter-finals in dramatic fashion.

One of them was Eric Dier, who slotted home the winning penalty in a shootout to take England through to the last eight, where they will face Sweden. Here’s how we rated each of the Spurs contingent on a remarkable night in Moscow.

Kieran Trippier: 8

Thoroughly impressive again. Attacked well down the right without neglecting his defensive duties and provided more dead-ball ammunition – including the corner which yielded the penalty. Scored his own when the time came and is coming of age with every cap.

Dele Alli: 6
Unable to get close to Spurs colleague Harry Kane often enough but his ability to offload position with one touch bought England space. Looked hurt towards the end of the first half but soldiered on until the 80th minute.

Harry Kane: 8
The England skipper took his tally in Russia to six by once again showing nerves of steel from the spot. And once again he scared an opponent into wrestling him and proved clinical from 12 yards. Clearly shattered but returned to the spot in the shootout and set the tone with another successful strike.

Eric Dier: 6
Slow to pick up the pace of the game when asked to come on and bring some steel to the midfield. Finished the game in the back three but will of course be remembered as the man who clipped home the winning penalty.

Danny Rose: 6
Did well after coming on and saw a deflected shot sneak wide.

Davinson Sanchez: 5
Tottenham’s Colombia defender had his hands full with England’s runners at set-pieces but was sure-footed in open play and made a great last-ditch tackle on Jesse Lingard when Colombia were searching for an equaliser.
