Carragher believes Chelsea could sack Sarri after Tottenham game

Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea losing to Tottenham later this month could lead to Maurizio Sarri losing his job.

There is speculation about Sarri’s position as head coach in the wake of Chelsea’s 6-0 hammering at Manchester City.

Reports suggest the next few games, starting with Thursday’s Europa League clash with Malmo, will determine Sarri’s future.

But pundit Carragher thinks it’s the derby against rivals Spurs at Stamford Bridge on the 26th that will be all-important.

Speaking on Sky Sports, former Liverpool and England defender Carragher said: “I actually think the Tottenham game is huge as opposed to the others.

“I think if he lost a couple of the others it wouldn’t be the end of the world for him.

“I think the Tottenham game, and as soon as Chelsea’s hierarchy feel they could miss out on the top four, that’s when they may make that change.”

Sarri has insisted that it will take time for him to successfully implement his style of play at the Bridge.

“I would like to see them stick with him and not make a change in the middle of the season,” said Carragher.

“But unfortunately we know that these next few fixtures – because of Chelsea’s history (of sacking managers) – you would imagine could be vital to whether Sarri gets the chance (to carry on).

“I think for a lot of clubs now getting to the Champions League is everything.”
