Shearer highlights Tottenham weakness despite win

Alan Shearer believes Leicester highlighted a weakness in the Tottenham side despite losing 3-1 at Wembley.

Spurs, hampered by injury problems, again dug out a result in a game in which they were caused plenty of problems.

Leicester were the better team for large spells of Sunday’s match and pundit Shearer reckons the Foxes showed that exploiting gaps left by full-backs Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose can open Spurs up.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2, former England captain Shearer said: “I think Leicester without a doubt identified the full-back positions as a weakness for Tottenham and something that they could exploit. They did that for large periods of the game.

“They knew that Tripper and Rose were going to play high and going to give Tottenham the width. Look at how high they are and look at the space they leave in behind.

“Leicester will have looked at that and thought because they (Spurs) like doing that (pushing the full-backs forward) that’s where they can cause them problems – and they did.

“The chances Leicester got in those positions, they should have got something out of the game.”

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, meanwhile, was full of praise for his players’ in his post-match press conference, hailing their ability to “find a way” to win without the likes of Harry Kane.
