Arsenal given boost in race to sign Austria star, Tottenham also linked

Arsenal have been given a boost in their apparent pursuit of Marcel Sabitzer, according to The Sun.

The newspaper, which has previously linked the Gunners with Sabitzer, has picked up on comments by RB Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff suggesting that the midfielder could leave the Bundesliga club.

Mitzlaff was recently quoted in German media reports as saying that offers could be considered for other players despite defenders Ibrahima Konate and Dayot Upamecano having already left this summer.

Austria international Sabitzer is said to have indicated that he would like to move on.

He has a year remaining on his contract and, faced with the prospect of him leaving on a free transfer next summer, The Sun suggest Leipzig might be prepared to sell him for £15m.

Mitzlaff has rejected the club’s offers of a new deal and seemingly has his heart set on a transfer elsewhere.

Tottenham were previously also linked with him and The Sun suggest both north London clubs could target Mitzlaff during this summer’s transfer window.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is keen to bolster his midfield options and his top target appears to be Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves. The West Midlands club are reportedly looking for around £35m for him.
