Peter Crouch has reiterated in a recent television interview that he would love to return to QPR, where he spent a year during the early stages of his career.
Plenty Rangers fans on social media have reacted by making it clear they would love to see the former England striker back at Loftus Road. But would it be such a good move?
Father time
At 37, Crouch is of course at the tail end of his career and although he has shown he can still do a job in the Premier League, the Championship is an extremely unforgiving league – as many established top-flight players have found when making the step down. How much has Crouch got left? And would it be enough to make him competitive in the second tier?
A regressive step
Signed from Tottenham for a pittance, having failed to make the grade at the north London club, and then sold on and developed into an England player, the young Crouch represented the kind of player QPR are supposed to be trying to get back to signing on a regular basis. Signing him at the end of his career wouldn’t be in keeping with that ethos.
Happy memories?
Crouch was a popular figure at Rangers for his own performances during a disastrous spell for the club. Aside from the promise he showed back then, it’s not as if his time at the club invokes happy memories. QPR were relegated to the third tier and in administration by the time he was sold to Portsmouth.
