Watford unlikely to land Chair as QPR dig in

Watford have been linked with a move for QPR playmaker Ilias Chair – but he will not be easy for them to acquire.

The Hornets were linked with Chair during the January transfer window and appear to have retained their interest in him.

The Athletic say Watford are among a number of clubs keen on Chair, who has impressed for Rangers in the last couple of seasons.

Belgian sides Anderlecht and Club Brugge and Italian clubs Bologna and Genoa are also said to be keen on him.

But QPR enjoyed an encouraging season, finishing eighth in the Championship table, and are keen to keep their best players for a possible promotion push next term.

They demanded £20m from Crystal Palace for Ebere Eze last summer and will no doubt tell any clubs making approaches for Chair that it will again take a sizeable transfer fee in order to prise him away from Loftus Road.

Only in January Chair signed a new four-and-a-half-year deal so is under contract until 2025.

And QPR manager Mark Warburton has made it clear that any sale would be very much on his club’s terms.

Speaking to West London Sport last month, Warburton said: “If any player leaves it will be for QPR’s valuation. Everyone’s got a price. The best player the world has a price if you’re prepared to pay it.

“If any player leaves QPR it will be if the board deem it to be good value for the club.”
