Warburton wants Barbet to stay at QPR

Mark Warburton says he hopes Yoann Barbet signs a new contract to stay at QPR.

The French defender’s deal expires in the summer and it is not clear whether he will still be at Rangers next season.

His importance was underlined when he bravely played on against West Brom on Saturday after a shove from Daryl Dike into the advertising hoardings left him with blood pouring from a head wound.

He has been outstanding alongside fellow centre-backs Rob Dickie and Jimmy Dunne as the team have climbed to fourth in the Championship table.

And manager Warburton has told West London Sport he is keen for Barbet to remain at the club.

Warburton said: “He shows his quality week in, week out, and shows how much he loves being at QPR. You see that in the way he plays.

“He loves being here and I hope he’s here for a long time, but we’ll have to see how it is.

“Yoann’s been excellent for us. He goes under the radar, Yoann. He’s not a typical centre-half. He’s cultured and loves to play.

“But you saw the nasty gash on his head and then he comes back on and wins three or four vitally important headers.”
