Warburton hints De Wijs will make QPR debut at Birmingham

QPR boss Mark Warburton has hinted that Jordy De Wijs could make his debut for the club at Birmingham today.

The Dutch defender has not played for Warburton’s side since arriving on loan from Hull City in January.

But De Wijs has recovered from a calf problem and returned to action for Rangers’ Under-23 side this week.

Comments by Warburton before and since that game suggest there could be a change to the line-up.

George Thomas could also be in the squad after he too returned from injury for the Under-23s.

Speaking to West London Sport before that game, Warburton said: “They’ll get a good hour in and see where they are.

“Then they’ll be available for Birmingham which really helps us because, getting back in the early hours after Preston, we may well need those options at Birmingham.”

And Warburton has since given another indication that changes are likely at St Andrews.

He told West London Sport: “The data doesn’t lie and you have to utilise it. Fans will often say: ‘Why isn’t he starting?’ or ‘You can’t change a (winning) team’.

“But sometimes the data tells and your eyes tell you you have to and sometimes coming off the bench allows you to be even fresher for the next game. Hopefully we will get that right.”
