Two midfielders could be on the way out of QPR

Peterborough United are interested in signing Michael Doughty from QPR.

West London Sport reported on Thursday that the League One club are keen on the midfielder but might struggle to sign him on a permanent deal as he has another year left on his contract at Loftus Road.

And Peterborough director of football Barry Fry subsequently confirmed to the Peterborough Telegraph that the club are interested in Doughty but that his wages could prove to be a barrier.

“It could be a tough one to pull off,” Fry admitted, “He’s on good money at QPR.”

Doughty, 24, is a product of QPR’s youth system but has started only three league matches for them.

He spent the first part of the season on loan at Swindon and has previously been on loan at Crawley, Aldershot, Stevenage, Gillingham and St Johnstone.

Rangers manager Ian Holloway recalled him from a season-long loan at Swindon in January but Doughty remains well down the pecking order as Holloway assesses his midfield options for next season.

Karl Henry has not played since December and is set to leave the club this summer.

Henry’s contract is due to expire and he is not being offered a new deal.
