What Pompey fans can expect from Wheeler

David Wheeler has joined Portsmouth on a season-long loan from QPR.

The winger has made just five appearances for the R’s since being signed from Exeter City a year ago. He missed the second half of last season because of a back injury.

Wheeler, 27, now gets the chance to play regular first-team football at Fratton Park.

What can Pompey fans expect from their new signing?

Work-rate

He works phenomenally hard and in some ways is comparable to former QPR winger Gareth Ainsworth in that what he lacks in guile he more than makes up for in sheer persistence.

Goals

Wheeler scored two minutes into his full debut for QPR, having scored 21 goals for Exeter the previous season. He certainly knows where the net is.

Opinion

Wheeler is certainly not afraid to express his political opinions. He has done so in the past on social media and in a local newspaper column during his Exeter days. He also wrote regular pieces for QPR’s website.
