Stephan makes feelings clear on what QPR need to do this summer

Julien Stephan says QPR need to improve the squad and their injury record if they are to challenge for promotion in the future.

Rangers, thrashed by high-flying Southampton and promoted Coventry this season, were brushed aside by another promotion-challenging side in Millwall.

Boss Stephan admitted the 2-0 loss to the Lions showed his team’s “limits” and the Frenchman is in no doubt what needs to happen if they are to move forward.

He told West London Sport: “If we do a lot of improvement, why not? But we need to improve.

“First, to keep our best players on the pitch for a longer time.

“Second, probably to have more maturity in some situations, because we have a very young team.

“And third, yes, bring some different profiles in some specific areas. We can see that it’s really important to have some specific profiles if we want to compete, not only (for) three months, four months or five months, but 10 months.

“So, in the future, why not? But now, we are not ready. This is the reality. But it’s a normal process.

“I think we have improved a lot of things and we are in a good way, but we have seen what we need to do to improve to reduce the gap.”

Rangers have been badly hampered by injuries this season but have been boosted by the return of several players in recent weeks.

Rumarn Burrell and Kwame Poku have been back in action and both Nicolas Madsen and Ilias Chair came on as substitutes against Millwall.
