QPR to rest key duo to keep them fresh for Swansea game

QPR will rest Angel Rangel and Geoff Cameron for tonight’s Carabao Cup game at Blackpool and hope they will be fully fit for Saturday’s game at Swansea.

Veteran defender Rangel has impressed since arriving on a short-term deal but is currently nursing a groin strain and missed Saturday’s defeat against Norwich.

He is expected to return for this weekend’s game against his former club Swansea, where Cameron could also be involved.

Cameron has played just one full match this season, against Millwall last week, and is working his way back to full fitness following his recent loan move from Stoke City.

Rangers manager Steve McClaren is set to give a number of his fringe players a chance to impress at Bloomfield Road.

“Competition is vital and these games are far better than training or under 23s games, which is what some of them have been playing in,” McClaren told QPR’s website.

“We want to win this game – you never put a team out not wanting to win – but we are also using this match to give time to players in the squad who need these games to prove themselves so if players are out of form, they can step in.”
