QPR striker set for loan move

QPR are set to loan out Paul Smyth after giving the young forward a new deal.

Smyth’s contract at Loftus Road has been extended to the summer of 2021 and West London Sport reports that he will now be sent out on loan, having long been lined up for a temporary move during this month’s transfer window.

The Northern Ireland international, 21, has been out of favour under Steve McClaren this season and has not featured in the league since being taken off at half-time by the Rangers boss against Sheffield United in August.

But he appears to be part of McClaren’s long-term plans, with the club having moved to cement his future at QPR.

Smyth told Rangers’ website: “I am absolutely delighted to sign the new deal.

“It means I can concentrate now on my football and doing all I can to break into the first-team in that time.

“I have developed so much since I have been here, and particularly since Steve McClaren came in. He has spoken to me and told me what I need to do and what he wants from me. He has helped me so much.

“My aim now is to carry on developing and then when I get my chance in the first team, make sure I take it.”
