QPR star says training has been different under Holloway

QPR striker Conor Washington says new boss Ian Holloway has introduced different training methods since his return to the club.

The Bristolian is back for a second spell as Rangers boss having recently replaced the sacked Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, who placed a large emphasis on fitness work.

Holloway, on the other hand, has been keen for the players to work on passing and movement in training.

“The enthusiasm he shows comes through in training,” Washington told West London Sport.

“We’ve been doing short and sharp, fun stuff. It’s been a real boost.

“It’s hard not to get a lift just from speaking to him. His enthusiasm is infectious.

“He’s such a positive guy. He’s been brilliant, especially for the forward players.

“He wants to score goals. He wants to score one more than the other team, which is exactly the sort of attitude you want to hear as a striker.

“He wants us to play to our strengths, which is really important to me.”

Holloway had a dream start in his first match back at the helm when Rangers beat Norwich 2-1 at Loftus Road.

Washington opened the scoring with only his second league goal for the club and enjoyed playing in his natural role as a centre-forward.

Deployed on the left flank by Hasselbaink, the 24-year-old was paired up front with Sebastian Polter, who also scored in Saturday’s win.

“It’s been tough for me since I’ve been here and it was nice to play in a two up front, which is good for me,” Washington said.

“Seb is really good to play off. I think the little-and-large combination works. I’ve always played in that and it’s what you get used to.”
