QPR reportedly plan to offer Smithies new deal

QPR plan to offer goalkeeper Alex Smithies an improved contract, the Brent & Kilburn Times reckon.

Smithies, 26, has been in excellent form for Rangers this season.

Signed from Huddersfield Town last year, Smithies is under contract at Loftus Road until 2018.

The Brent & Kilburn Times claim he was sounded out by a number of other Championship clubs earlier this year but decided to stay in west London, where he is apparently happy and settled.

QPR are apparently confident both Smithies and Dutch playmaker Tjaronn Chery will sign improved contracts at the club.

But the newspaper also say Rangers would consider selling Smithies if they received a big offer because they have a ready-made replacement in Matt Ingram.

Chery has been a key player for the R’s since arriving at the club and earlier this year he indicated that he would like to sign a new deal.

“I’ll see what happens, but it would be good news if I could sign a new contract,” he told West London Sport in August.

“I am happy here. A new season, a new start and a new contact; that would be perfect.”

Chery, who scored 10 goals for the R’s last season, is also under contract until the summer of 2018.
