QPR set to call off loan move after injury blow

QPR are ready to call off a loan move for Murphy Mahoney after one of the club’s other goalkeepers suffered an injury.

West London Sport reports that Mahoney, 19, was set to join Walsall but that the deal is in serious doubt because Joe Walsh is now sidelined.

Mahoney made two first-team appearances for Rangers last season because of a string of injuries to more senior keepers – including Walsh – during a nightmare spell under former boss Mark Warburton.

The Championship club have been keen for Mahoney to pick up more experience but it appears that he will be staying at Loftus Road due to Walsh’s injury.

Meanwhile, QPR striker Sinclair Armstrong looks set to spend the rest of the season playing in League One.

West London Sport have been reporting that Rangers are considering allowing the 19-year-old Dubliner out on loan in order to give him more experience, and that several clubs have shown an interest.

And Football Insider say Sheffield Wednesday and Lincoln City are leading the race to snap up Armstrong ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.

“There’s a lot of interest in Sinclair,” QPR boss Neil Critchley told West London Sport.

“It’s always that decision around what’s best for him and for us at this stage of his development. That will be a decision we have in the next 48 to 72 hours.”
