QPR want to sign Brighton defender Uwe Hünemeier to replace Nedum Onuoha.
West London Sport reports that Rangers are keen to persuade the centre-back to join them this summer rather than return to his native Germany.
His contract expires at the end of the season and his first-team chances at Albion have been limited because of the partnership of Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy.
QPR are looking for a replacement for club captain Onuoha, who will leave this summer when his contract at Loftus Road comes to an end.
The Argus has subsequently reported that Brighton manager Chris Hughton has warmly praised Hünemeier, who joined the south-coast club in 2015.
Hughton said: “There’s nothing I can say about that (QPR’s interest) at the moment. That’s news to me.
“It’s been very difficult for Uwe, this season and last season, to get the games he would like, simply because of the form of Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy, and neither of them have gone through a spell of injury.
“They have very much cemented their place but Uwe, from the moment he came, has been excellent for us.
“He trains well every single day, he is a valued member of the club because it’s not just about the 11 that play but the squad and good training groups.
“What ever happens with Uwe he has been wonderful for me personally and for this club.”
