Steve McClaren has described Angel Rangel as “the signing of the season” because of the veteran defender’s performances for QPR.
The right-back, 35, was brought in on a short-term deal as cover while Darnell Furlong recovers from a knee injury.
Rangel, who was a free agent after leaving Swansea after 11 years with the Welsh club, has been outstanding for the R’s in an excellent run of results for McClaren’s side.
And McClaren’s comments are sure to irritate many of the Swans fans who were unhappy at the decision to release Rangel at the end of last season.
Rangers manager McClaren told West London Sport: “Angel Rangel must be so far the signing of the season. He’s 35 years old, came on trial and we signed him and he’s performed so well.”
Angel has been part of Rangers’ resurgence since they lost their first four league games under McClaren.
That run included a 7-1 battering at West Brom followed by a 3-0 defeat at home to Bristol City.
However, since then the R’s have lost just two of the following 11 Championship matches.
They have also kept three consecutive clean sheets – and managed four shut-outs in their last five games.
