QPR forward faces spell out injured – and another faces uncertain future

QPR striker Matt Smith faces weeks on the sidelines with an ankle injury he suffered in training last week.

The news is a blow for Smith, whose contract expires this summer – although West London Sport reports that Rangers initially thought the injury was more serious.

Manager Steve McClaren explained: “When he went down injured we thought it was going to be a long-term one.

“I was so, so disappointed. But fortunately he should be back in a few weeks.”

Meanwhile, on-loan striker Tomer Hemed says he is unsure what the future holds for him once the campaign ends.

Hemed, 32, is on a season-long loan from Brighton, where he was out of favour prior to his move to Loftus Road.

“It’s still too early for me. My head is only here in QPR and I will try my best to finish with the team well,” said the Israel international.

“At the end of the season, we know the situation, I have to go back to Brighton and then obviously see with the club what the plans are for the future.

“I came here to help the team, first of all with goals, and as well for my experience, and I will help as much as I can in any way that I can.”
