Steve McClaren will not reveal who QPR’s captain will be until he names his line-up for today’s Championship game at Preston.
The match will be McClaren’s first since he took over from Ian Holloway as Rangers manager – and someone else will be taking the armband now that Nedum Onouha has left.
But McClaren has been keeping his cards close to his chest ahead of the Deepdale clash.
“I’ve got a few conversations with different players,” McClaren told QPR’s website.
“The captain is just a figure. For me what is important is that we have a good senior group.
“It’s not about one person, it is about the team. I do like a group of five or six captains in a dressing room and I think we have that. They have experience, picking one out of that five or six is very difficult.
“We’ve swapped it about in pre-season, we played two German teams so I gave Toni (Leistner) the armband.
“That’s all it is though – an armband – leadership is about more than an armband, it’s about being in the dressing room and being a leader and vocal, then taking that onto the pitch and epitomising what we are about for 90+ minutes.”
