QPR boss optimistic on Hall – but less so on new signings

Steve McClaren is optimistic QPR defender Grant Hall will be available for selection when the new campaign starts.

McClaren told West London Sport he is hopeful Hall, who has had knee injury, will be ready for the start of pre-season training.

Hall, 26, missed most of last season but McClaren, who met him soon after being confirmed as Rangers manager, believes he is making a good recovery,

He said: “I’d just signed and was looking around the training ground and Grant Hall was there.

“I was fortunate enough to have a quick conversation with him. He’s training through the summer, his rehab’s gone well.

“It’s always difficult after a year out and we have to take it quite slowly with him, but I’m quite hopeful that on the first day of pre-season he’s going to be with the group.”

But McClaren is less hopeful he will be able to make more than a few signings this summer.

He also told West London Sport: “We need to add quality not quantity. There won’t be a lot.

“This club now is in a far better position to move forward than it was a year ago and especially two years ago. Credit to everybody who was in that position.

“We need to be very careful still. I still don’t think we’re out of the woods. I still think we have to cut our cloth.”
