Players told by McClaren they have future at QPR

Steve McClaren says the players recently sent out on loan by QPR are in his first-team plans for next season.

The Rangers manager told West London Sport he expects the likes of Sean Goss, Paul Smyth, Ilias Chair and Aramide Oteh to be options for him when they return to Loftus Road.

“I think so, most definitely. They’re good players, they just need experience,” he said.

“The next four or five months are very important for these players because in the summer they’re expecting to play in the first team.

“They’ve been training with the first team for four or five months and got that experience under their belt.

“Now, they’re experiencing – all over the country – league football, which I thought was the next development for them.

“We’re monitoring them and hoping that when they come back in the summer they’ll be ready for the first team.”

Goss has failed to make an impact since being signed from Manchester United and will spend the rest of the season at St Johnstone.

But McClaren believes Goss can still make a name for himself at QPR.

“Definitely. But he needed to get out and play. He’s not experienced enough,” McClaren said.

“He’s a wonderful footballer – a wand of a left foot – and he just needs experience. He needs league experience.

“Going up to Scotland – I know he played very well against Celtic – he’s got to prove himself.

“Playing in that league and that atmosphere you’ve really got to stand up and be counted.

“I still believe in Sean Goss. I still believe that he’s got a future. And at the right club, in the right team, it’ll be very good for him.”
