Injury blow for QPR ahead of Brighton game

QPR’s Tjaronn Chery will miss today’s game against Championship title chasers Brighton, seemingly after picking up an injury.

The Dutch playmaker posted on Instagram that he hopes to be fit for Rangers’ next match, at Wolves on New Year’s Eve.

Chery scored 10 goals last season and started this term in excellent form.

He has struggled of late but was defended by R’s boss Ian Holloway after a recent poor display in the home defeat against Derby County.

Good luck to the boys tomorrow ?? @officialqpr Hope to be back fit for the next game ? #BHAQPR

Holloway told West London Sport: “Unfortunately the deliveries from corners from our star player weren’t quite there. Sometimes he’s allowed to not be our star player.

“He’s a fantastic deliverer of a ball. Unfortunately he couldn’t buy a cross, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think he’s fantastic.

“The pressure sometimes for him is immense; to try to win us a game, do something or find a pass.

“It’s almost too much. I want him to chill out. He’s allowed a bad game and he kept going.”

Boxing Day results meant Rangers, who have suffered five consecutive defeats, dropped down to 20th in the Championship table, still three points above the relegation zone.

They have not won since beating Norwich in their first match since Holloway’s return as manager.
