Holloway explains why QPR aren’t interested in Bristol Rovers marksman

Ian Holloway says QPR will not be joining the clubs chasing prolific Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor.

A number of sides are reported to be interested in signing the 26-year-old, who has scored 19 goals for League One Rovers so far this season.

But former Rovers man Holloway says Taylor is not the kind of centre-forward Rangers are looking for as they look to build on their encouraging recent run of results.

With Sebastian Polter having recently left Loftus Road to sign for German club FC Union Berlin, only Idrissa Sylla offers Rangers a physical presence up front.

R’s boss Holloway is therefore focused on bringing in a target man – not someone in the mould of Taylor.

Holloway told West London Sport: “He’s a very good player who belongs to Bristol Rovers and I shouldn’t talk about anybody else’s players.

“There are a lot of players who step up a level and can score. But it’s about the balance I need – the pace and power to move the ball from back to front sometimes if Sylla’s injured.

“Have I got anyone who can do that? I’m not so sure I have, and Matty Taylor isn’t really that sort of player.”
