Holloway delighted but Warnock slates ‘long ball’ QPR

Neil Warnock says QPR’s style of play is unrecognisable to the way they played during his time as manager.

Former Rangers boss Warnock saw his Cardiff side beaten 2-1 at Loftus Road, where he was given a warm welcome back on his return.

Warnock remains a hugely popular figure among Rangers fans, having guided the club to promotion back to the Premier League in 2011.

But he believes they are a very different side under Ian Holloway.

He told West London Sport: “I’m not surprised (by his welcome). I love them here and they’ve been brilliant with me. They won’t forget that year in a rush.

“It’s changed now. It’s long ball all the time now to (Matt) Smith – whack it up from the back and see what they can get off him.”

Holloway, whose team are up to 16th in the Championship table, was delighted with his players’ performance after they came from behind to beat the Bluebirds on the day QPR marked the 50th anniversary of the club’s famous 1967 League Cup victory.

Holloway said: “Neil will be fuming, but there wasn’t a lot between us and I did feel our substitutes coming off the bench made the difference for us, and I’m delighted for them.”
