QPR defender Cook set to sign new contract

QPR captain Steve Cook is set to sign a new contract, according to West London Sport.

Cook, soon to turn 34, is approaching the end of his current contract but looks set to stay at Loftus Road.

West London Sport reports that a new deal hinged on Rangers not being relegated from the Championship.

And with Marti Cifuentes’ side now virtually safe, the club can start planning for next season.

With four matches of the season remaining, the R’s are eight points clear of 22nd-placed Cardiff City and have a vastly superior goal difference to the Welsh side.

It appears that veteran centre-back Cook is very much part of QPR’s plans beyond the end of the campaign.

Cook signed a two-year deal when he joined the club from Nottingham Forest during the summer of 2023.

He has made 33 appearances this season and 69 in total for the R’s but is currently out with a foot injury he initially suffered against Preston in December.

Other QPR players whose contracts expire this summer include defenders Jimmy Dunne and Kenneth Paal.

Dunne, who recently won his first cap for the Republic of Ireland, was the subject of interest from promotion-chasing Sheffield United during the January transfer window.
