Stoke City manager Nathan Jones is set to sign former QPR midfielder Jordan Cousins on a free transfer.
Cousins, 25, was one of several out-of-contract players to leave Loftus Road earlier this summer.
The South Londoner is now heading for the Potteries, where he will hope to kick-start a career that has stalled somewhat in recent years.
Obvious talent
Cousins has always been highly regarded. He was monitored by a number of clubs during his time as a youngster at Charlton and caught the eye even in a struggling Addicks side that were relegated from the Championship. He was even linked with the likes of Liverpool.
Lack of consistency
QPR therefore thought they were getting a quality player when they signed Cousins, then 22, in the summer of 2016. However, although he showed his ability at times, he didn’t consistently perform and was rarely a first-choice player during his time in west London.
Hamstring woe
Cousins’ struggle for form was in part linked to a struggle for fitness. He was plagued by hamstring trouble during a stop-start QPR career and never really produced his best. He’ll hope to put that behind him at Stoke.
Versatility
On a more positive note, Stoke are set to sign a player who is versatile as well as capable. Primarily a midfielder, Cousins can also play at right-back, wing-back or on the right of midfield.
